Golf
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/Sotogrande-Golf.html
Sotogrande Golf is defined by a geographic area that encompasses world golf heaven. No other place in the world can boast views of the Mediterreanean and 12 of Europes best courses all within 20 kilometers. Try that on for size!
Valderrama
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/valderama.html
Designed by the late Robert Trent Jones Senior, home of the 1997 Ryder Cup and the present Volvo Masters. Valderrama is considered to be Europes best course.
Reserva de Sotogrande
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/Reserva.html
Opened in 2003, this course is on 72 Hectars and five tees for each hole. Designed by Cabell B. Robinson who worked with Robert Trent Jones for 20 years. Completely USGA regulations
Almenara Golf
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/almenara.html
One one of most impressive tees in Europe with certainly the most magnificant views of the Sea and Andalucia Sierra. Designed by Dave Thomas of Britain with 27 holes, two lakes, and deep bunkers.
Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/clubreal.html
One of the first golf courses built in Europe and holding the distinct title of Real or Royal since 1995. It was this golf course that got Sotogrande on the map, and perhaps even made Sotogrande what it is today. It boasts two courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, a 9-hole and a 18 hole.
Club de Golf La Canada
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/canada.html
Guadiro supplied the land, Robert Trent Jones designed the courese, and La Canada became true in 1991.
The course is named after indigenous trees. 18 holes with a very pleasant layout.
La Duquesa Golf and Country Club
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/duquesa.html
La Duquesa is known for its course that changes with the wind as they say. It is a two part course, the first an English style course, the second is the back 9 holes that is easier because of wider fairways.
San Roque Club New Course
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/san-roque-golf-new.html
This is the second golf course for San Roque's resort and built in 2003. This is an excellent course for both beginners, although challenging but manageable and advanced players. Sotogrande Golf magazine describes it as “high in technical quality, precise layout and impeccable finish and landscaping."
Alcaidesa Links
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/alcaidesa.html
Ah the views of this course are amazing, they are of the Mediterranean, Gibraltor and Africa's Morocco. The natural setting is very vogue now a days, however be aware the same view brings the winds that make this a much more difficult course then it looks.
Alcaidesa Heathland Golf Club
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/alcaidesa-heathland.html
The latest course in our area, and 18 holes as a Dave Thomas course, this course is completely different from its sibling Alcaidesa course in that the course is wide and flat. The wind however is still a great challenge in this sibling as well.
Dona Julia Golf Club
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/dona-julia.html
The only course second to Valderrama that uses G-2 bent grass allowing for a fast and perfect roll. This grass and greens of this course along with the extraordinary wide course make this an outstanding must play course.
Finca Cortesin Golf Club
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/Sotogrande-Golf.html
Very near the Mediterranean Sea and in a privileged area of Andalusia , Finca Cortesin has become a reference in the world of the golf. At almost 7,000 meters from the back tees it is considered one of the longest courses in Europe .
Gardening and Nursery
http://www.today-in-sotogrande.com/Sotogrande-Gardens.html
You have to wonder the beautiful flora and fuana in the coast is becuase of the climate or the nursery's. In all of the world I have traveled and have yet to find anything like the garden stores of Spain.

Ah! My favorite subject...
Beaches in Spain!
I promise to dedicate an entire site to Beaches in Spain so please sign up to my newsletter below, Ill notify you when the web site is ready (already in progress).
Meanwhile let me lay out a few of the obvious beaches, and a few of the must see beaches, along with a few real hip beaches for the young or hot blooded.
Now Sotogrande has only one beach ,Sotogrande Beach, it technically spans from the entire length of Sotogrande, although it is seperated by the mouth of the Guadiaro River almost right down the middle. Therefore part of the beach is infront of one Beach Club El Octogono from the left, and the other part split between the other club El Cucurocho on the right.
Sotogrande Beach is technically free of charge, as are all the beaches in Spain. However access to it is a different story and seemingly only from one of the two expensive Beach Clubs. However, a little known passage is available from Paseo del Parque, which is gated itself but access is again available if you are going to the beach. This passage is available just to the right of El Cucurocho. If you must go to the beach, if you are say a local of Sotogrande and living here, it is understandable to go to Sotogrande Beach.
However there are lot more bigger more beautiful beaches to go to then Sotogrande Beach not even considering the hastle of the gates of Sotogrande and the tiny dirt road to the beach from Paseo del Parque, not to mention no nearby food services.
The nearby beaches span from Marbella to Tarifa, with a honorary mention of Zahara Beach.
I am listing the beaches that are worthy of a visit below, however if you want a more complete list (not to my satisfaction yet, so make sure you join my mailing list at the bottom of every page) The list of nearby visits from left to right are;
Tarifa Beach - The only beach here on the Atlantic Ocean. However if you havent seen this beach you are in for a treat of a lifetime. This beach spans 11 kilometers of prestine white powder, with some of the biggest sand dunes to go along with it.
To make matters more special you view is Africa! On a good day Africa blows up into a magnified magestic site that can not be explained. On special days the skyline of Africa magically magnifies itself, perhaps because of the passage of light across the Ocean like a mirage. Its a site to see and one that I hope you catch.
Another bonus is that if you are a windsurfer or a kitesurfer this is your beach. Tarifa is regarded as THE place to kite surf or wind surf in the ENTIRE world by many.
The kitsurfers numbering in the hundreds in some days are worth the site alone.
Location - less than a kilometer from
Alcaidesa Beach - Another beach that is expansive and has an amazing view. Alcaidesa Beach is a must see for everyone, the reason - The most incredible view of Gibraltor and Africa from the beach.
The nice part of this beach is that you will feel completely at home if you are British or German. Alcaidesa community is home to thousands of ex-pats from those two counties. A real family place full of kids and fun. Alcaidesa also boast a pub, a beach restaurant and a number of beach barbecue places right on the beach.
Location - A few kilometers from Sotogrande going towards Gibralator, not far at all.
Sotogrande Beach - A very private beach in many ways but its actually open to the public, very difficult access and only reccomended for residents thru the Beach Clubs or the side road.
Location - In the middle of Sotogrande (on the sea of course)
Torre Guadiaro Beach - Certainly one of my favorite beaches as a Sotogrande resident. Nearby, large, clean, with amenities like a bathroom and snack bars, and walking steps to restaurants in Torre Guadiaro.
Torre Guadiaro is the town right next to Sotogrande on the way to Marbella and Malaga, right next to Sotogrande on the seaside. Not to be mistaken for Pueblo Nuevo which itself is mistake for Guadiaro by new comers.
Location - Less than a stones throw from Sotogrande.
Estepona Beach - otherwise known as La Rada Beach - A real Spanish Beach and by this I mean this beach has been the holiday spot for Spanairds for decades. Estepona Beach boasts the best prices on Costa del Sol for activitites, food, refreshments, and fun!
Also along the beach on the board walk there is a lovely, and very long, play ground for toddlers and kids. I love this place for my own daughter! Try to stay away from the Burger King!
Highly reccomended if you have children!
Coasta Natura - Just outside of Estepona, yup! Its a nudist beach, and its open to everyone. For those that are a bit more enthusiastic you can pay to join the nudist colony that is composed of a beach, a town, restaurants and Im sure other things that I have not experienced, yet.
Puerto Banus Beach - This beach is for those that cant get away, or dont want to get away from Puerto Banus. The beach is of course right next door to all the famous bars and restaurants, and it does actually boast a great crowd at the beach. This is your people watchers beach!
Marbella Beach - Very much like Estepona Beach but not as Spanish boasting a number of international participants. One of my favorite beaches as far as proximity to sanity on the coast.
Niki Beach - Yup we have one too! Just past Marbella this is the hip beach to go to. The young, the hot, the gorgeous, the topless, the beautiful all go here all day long and ofcourse.....all night long. This beach bar ends it partying typically at 9:00 am, yes you read that correctly.
